I have a animation in flash, with a shape over the top of it.
Now
I want to blur the parts of the animation that are behind the shape.
I wanna keep the rest of the animation sharp so I cant just do it in PS.
Any ideas???

well.. you could tkae a screenshot of the part you want to blur.. and then take into photoshop and blur it to the max (and compress).. then import into flash and overlay on your vector version.. then just fade out the blurred JPEG when you want it to come into focus..
em.. does that make sense?

Yeah Thanks Nematoth, only thing is the animation behind is constantly moving so this wouldnt be possible, it really needs to be a sort of 'real time' thingy
if that makes sense

if you just wanted a motion trail effect you could just duplicate your animated mov a couple of times, mask the duplicates and drop back their alphas to 80% & 60% - then set a delay of a few frames to the 80% and a few frames more to the 60%. make sense?

ok.. but you could just make the blurred JPEG the same size as your symbol.. or is the symbol that you want to blur changing shape?
cos then it wouldnae work..
Failing that do what rasko said.. but you won't get such a nice blurry effect...

you need to use AS to do it

Instead of making a blurry JPEG, make a blurry 24bit PNG in P'Shop. Using the transparency your blur will be independent of what is going on behind it.

You could make all the shapes that need blurring into seperate mc's. Those can be tweened and moved.
Than use something like this to blur them.

hmm can after effects creaye a png sequence?

Yeah, I think after effects might be the way. its just that the movie clip behind is random and changes everytiome you access the page.
Think Ive bitten off more than i can chew

yeah, if you want a gaussian blur kind of mask, there's no way you're going to get the same effect with vectors or png gradients, well that's what i think.
but you could export the different sequences as separate after effects quicktime movies, they import will in flash, and have them play as requested...
