mac os x system freeze

I would have thought that OS X 10.3 is bombproof but the latest events proved me wrong.
When I SLEEP the Powerbook (1Ghz G4, 60Gb, 256DDR) and open it the next morning or just a couple of hours later, everything freezes. It doesn't even make a sound (no HDD, Combo Driver, fan etc. activity).
I tried checking the logs but nothing appears between the period that I SLEEP it and when I RESTART it.
Another peculiar thing that happened was that the 2nd time or so when it froze and I restarted it, the system wouldn't boot. I started up the Disk Utility yet the HDD couldn't be detected... After a couple of restarts it came back to normal and everything worked just fine (except the system freezes upon WAKE UPs).
Cheers, Gerhard.

Sounds like it could be hardware or software... I've had problems similar to this with my old Powerbook...and this is where an Applecare contract is a good thing!...

yeah that sounds like a power or motherboard issue to me.

Well, I didn't want to call Apple if it was something I could sort out, but it appears that calling the professionals would be the best way to go.
I'll get back and update you on how things worked out. Bye for now ;-), Gerhard.

Hi guys ;-). Back with good news. It was the blinking modem that was freezing the system... I unplug it now before sleeping the PB and everything runs nice and smooth ;-).
Thanks anyways, Gerhard.
p.s.: Apple phone support rocks. I haven't met a more willing team to sort out a problem...

Same thing happened too me about a week ago.
I found out it was the external USB Bluetooth adapter I had plugin to my G4.
It look like OS X Panther is a bit picky with USB.
