if this had happened here in the u.s. it would have been front page news, made the teli, and most likely some idiot would't have posted to the effect "what is wrong with america" and spewed idiocy about our parenting, culture and whatnot.
but why has there been nothing? it's a no brainer that japanimation is 10x more violent than any u.s. movie or video game, and yet for some reason knowone is talking about it.
why is that?
why is everyone so quick to talk smack about the u.s?
discuss?

well, the thing is that relatively speaking, if you want to compare american youth crime with Japan's, there is really no comparison at all.
"According to police figures, the number of minors aged 14 to 19 who committed serious crimes such as murder and robbery rose 11.4 percent to 2,212 in 2003, while the number of offenders under 14 rose 47.2 percent to 212, topping the 200 level for the first time in 16 years.
There have been eight cases where primary school children have committed or attempted murder in the last 15 years."

aspects of their culture are subtle timebombs waiting to go off
but also, stuff like that happens here that you do not hear about

Well, movies like Kill Bill can have an effect on just about anyone these days.

not sure why people always have a go at the U.S, perhaps it's something to do with the percieved arogance, and the fact that the president is less than popular (generally typing.)
as for the japan murder, every time i see something like this in the news media, i keep thinking we're one step closer to going down the toilet as a species... but then, i am in a mood so i may not be worth paying attention to right now.

It looks like it's pretty big news in Japan. The US just gets more airtime cos we get more airtime for everything. we're the US. Good or bad we effect the whole world so everybody is all up in our business.
Plus, I don't blame movies or video games for violence anyway, so the argument over japanimation is senseless to me.

The U.S. has the spotlight since it is the super power. This is why people expect more from the U.S. and is why it is the main political focus in here and outside. It is also known as jock-riding.

you hear about it here because american news reporters suck big cock. you only hear what the people want to hear.
this is what happens when you are a capitalist institution.
the movies really dont play a huge role in whether or not some kid is going to go to school and try/actually kill someone. this is more rooted in the environment survived at the home level and the people that raise them with exceptional values.
the media is a reflection of how we live, not the other way around.

Following my response you may hear some say "This is why people dont like americans. Arrogance." but again this would be considered ego-protecting.

why is that there are so much of this in ther world yet i am sitting thinking if i should buy an ipod or not.

Suicide Club really does address this subject to a tee.

...even the cross-dressing Jimmy Fallons or the world

That suicide circle movie looks CRAZY, can it be rented here in the US?
I don't understand how people think that movies and video games have nothing to do with the mass violence going on in the world?! How could it not? People have become desensitized.

I think you have cause and effect mixed up April.

it's not the popular response, but of course it's true......of course they influence children just as trailer parks, racist parents, parents as pimps, inner city stress, selfish suburban isolationism, and overpopulation contribute to these perverted acts of misguided youth. And more specifically, the US has been engaged in two violent war campaigns in two different countries....it's like a boomerang across the globe
