Is anybody here into landscape design? And more specifically Deck/Patio design.
To me (now, anyways) this kind of design seems to combine ecology, architecture, materials, human involvement, and so many other good things about design. Is there much of a market for a deck-focused company? Now I'm down with landscape design, but flowers aren't my thing (trees are cool tho), so I'm just focusing out the deck/patio thing.
Thoughts, comments?

yeah i just watched this show-top 10 pools and all of them were integrated into the environement. absolutely beautiful. wish i had that kind of money! i guess there would be that kind of market if you what you did was not the normal kidney shaped pool cement around blah blah blah. if you're good and unique there's always a market i would say.

i have seen deck design companies before. i think they are more of a niche market, i mean how many people a year really need a new deck.
my step father is a landscape arch, its really interesting all the different crap they take into consideration while planning a space.

Yeah it definately is a niche market. But with an aging population I think it might become big.
It's true, too, that there's lots of variety and oppurtunity to be creative if you want.
This might make for actually serioous consideration.

im about to build a deck. researching materials at the moment.
im looking at the non wood systems that they have now.
pretty pricy but i think in the long run it will be worth it.

ebon: do you have a link for non-wood materials?
- ebon0
there are a ton out there. im not sure what is better at this point.
here are a few:
still trying to figure out what the best product is.
i would suggest stopping in HomeDepot or a news stand and pick up a decking mag. there are a few of them out there with tons of systems to look through.

no prob.
its funny that this thread came up. i have been playing with my landscape design instead of doing work today.
just a rough draft to get a feel for the space i have to work with.

What's that a bungalow layout?

not that this helps in any way, but i'm currently building a shed, the floor of which is pretty much just a 10x12 deck.
Here's where I got...

That's cool I just bought a 1924 built bongalow. It has a similar lot placement and footprint. I'm in the same boat too, I need to:
Update the Electrical
Plumbing
Insulate
New Furnace
etc...
etc..It's still fun to do it.
