I guess, from the things I've seen with my own eyes, the UN runs away from crisis', especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.

It's the way it goes. The only intergovernmental organisations that work are the economic ones like the WTO, EU, NAFTA, IMF etc... everything else can be used and abused in favour of geopolitics. Behind all the rhetoric of humanitarianism, and respecting state sovereignty - the only thing that matters is the free-flow of capital. That's why the US is vocal when it comes to democratically elected, but Leftist governments in central/south america - against Chavez, Aristide, Castro (not-democratic) - but is deafingly silent when it comes to desert autocracies in Africa. I don't know why people are surprised.

you reckon? hmmmm.... Once in power he was a really bad leader. He spent vast sums of his countries money on Arms, completely underestimated the AIDS epidemic, did nothing for the poor of South Africa, the gap between rich and poor increased at an alarming rate - as did crime; he left an increasingly autocratic party (which he refuses to criticise) and a real dumbass of a successor (who still denies there's any link between HIV and AIDS). Together with half-hearted criticism of Mugabe whilst his party, during and after his Presidency, have openly enodrsed his regime.
hmmm, not too sure about Mandela.

Kuz, I pretty much agree with you, but see I look at him as the lesser of the many evils in Africa.

That is true.

Sam Nujoma of Namibia is a pretty peaceful cat but he kept re-writing the Namibian Consititution to suit his own needs, like staying in power. They tend to do this type of thing and set terrible precendents. Kinda' like Mugabe, Dos Santos of Angola, etc.

I don't think I've ever seen black type on a white background on the big screen like that. Such a simple everyday thing seemed so strange.
