I don't think it's very organized. I have friends who teaches there complain all the time.
I'm not familiar with the curriculum. I hope it's improved from last year's class.
I was there for 2 days to look at the work. All the assesors were shocked at how bad the student's typography skills were.
Good luck! Make sure you learn lots and have fun with your projects.

have u seen the work coming out of OCAD..
hows that?(SEE IM TOTTALY CONFUSED NOW IF I SHUD GO AND PAY 6000 for 4 yrs to learn shit about typographY!)

It really depends on the student. One can tell if the student was paying attention or not by their work.
Just make sure you pay attention in class. I think most students aren't willing to do the work so they suck.
I heard the quality of work from OCAD has gone down too.
I think Matt from Chaoticroots.com is going to OCAD. he had the same concerns as you too. you should contact him to discuss.

You can still ask Matt about OCAD and the kind of cirriculum they have.
The best way to find out which school to go to is to speak with recent grads of both programs and get their opinions about what they learned and if it's worth going.

if you think you're going to graduate and make lots of loot you're mistaken my friend-- graphic design is the wrong field for you. perhaps engineering or medicine would be a better fit? most of my friends that have managed to find design jobs since graduation are either:
a) working for free as interns
or
b) working for minimum wage
i graduated from ocad just over a month ago. ocad is a good school. the administration is full of assholes that want to oppress the students and financially fuck them every which way but the faculty (for the most part) is pretty solid. i'd say 60 % of the student work is competant--meaning it's technically sound but generally lacks imagination or thought. i'd say 15 % falls into the well thought out, imaginative, well-executed category of design. i suspect the student work at most schools breaks down the same way.
if you were smart you would have gone to the year end open house at the beginning of the month. that way at least you could judge for yourself.
in the end all that really matters is how hard you're willing to work and how much you want to improve. excellent faculty and facilities are no substitute for drive and ambition.

Well put eggnog. School can only do so much you have to be willing to put in the work.
Your also right thats its a mofo, to get a good design job in Toronto right now. I might have to go back to school and become a teacher. Guaranteed pay, and two months off.

We all have to start somewhere. I know internship doesn't pay, but you get experience doing real work and make industry contacts.
Just have to pimp hard the first few years. Starting pay is something like $25k if you are lucky.!
eggnog, you are so cynical for a recent grad! You have to have thicker skin to last in this industry.
When I first started I must have called every company listed in the yellow pages. I got at least 80 rejections before I got 1 interview.
If you want something bad enough, there is a way of getting it.! Just have to be persistant and willing to work hard and learn.
