launch PDF from FLA

  HI.
  i need help, fast.
  i got a flash exe.
  it has a mc that is supposed to launch a PDF file in a new window.
  i have tried
  on(release){
  getURL("doc.pdf");}

  no luck. also, i have a htm page that redirects to it, if that makes it easier.
