I'm starting a company called labrador clothing based in the UK which will sell t-shirts. i have just found out that there is a company in Japan called Labrador Retriever which also sells t-shirts.
Does anyone know if I will have to change the name of my company?

Probably not. Especially if the other company is not yet selling in the UK and you beat them to it.

so yeah beat them them to it
and if your designs are different from theirs it should not matter

The problem is their logo is a full grown labrador and mine is a labrador puppy.
I don't know under what name they are registered and if they are registered at all.
They are called Labrador Retriever, and mine is called Labrador Clothing.
Although the logo is similar, their style is a bit different, even though we both sell t-shirts.

Doesnt sound like it could be a problem... You would have to be competing in the same market, or potentially causing confusion for their customers, which seems unlikely.
Of course if both companies were selling globally, online, then it could be a problem, as then it's not the location of the companies that is the issue... but thats not the case is it?

hopefully this is the case. I supose my site will be written in english and theirs in japanese. I could always say we are not labrador retriever of japan
