I'm on OSX version 10.2.8
I recently zipped a huge file for someone. Right now I'm trying to trash it but my system won't let me.I've restarted my computer several times already. I can't even move the file to my desktop.
Can anyone tell me how to trash that file? I keep getting this message.
"The Item is being used by another task right now. (Other tasks include moving, copying, or emptying the Trash.)
Try again when the other task is complete."
Also in the folder, this file is listed as Stuffit Partial file.
thanks in advance.

have you tried logging in as a different user then trashing the file? maybe changing permissions on it or renaming it?
i've never seen that message before. that one's a doozy.

How long did you leave it off for when you restarted? that's happened to me a few times, but if I let the machine sit off for about as long as it takes me to get another cup of tea, it'll be fine.
Did you try turning off all apps?

OPTION=APPLE=DELETE... bye bye

the first thing i do when trouble pops up is repair permissions. use onyx or cocktail, if u dont have it get it at www.macupdate.com

"you can go to the terminal (Macintosh HD/Applications/Util ities/) and type:
sudo rm (space at the end)
then drag and drop the file into the terminal window and hit return.
enter your password and hit return.
gone. "

Waiting a few days sometimes helps.
There's also a few utility programs that can do the force empty trash if you dont like using the Terminal (Cocktail or Tinker Tool I think?)

Device Unseens trick works like a charm, i had the same problem a while back.

all you are taking this way too far... again.. OPTION=APPLE DELETE to DELETE anything and hold down the OPTION key to when empting the trahs will DELETE anything... no utilities from Version Tracker- or terminal hacks needed.
- spmitch0
those are not terminal hacks
they are basic *nix commands and sometimes files will not delete unless you use the terminal
