So I'm stuck with the responsibility of doing a corporate identity system for a company called General Gear. I came up with a bunch of concepts here:
http://homepage.mac.com/curtdog/…but of all the concepts, they like the one on the last row the best... not only that but they want me to make it 3D... wtf? so here's something along the lines of what they want...
http://homepage.mac.com/curtdog/…But apparently they want something really 3D, like some cheesy shit that hasn't been trendy since the late 1990's... something VERY clip-artsy:
http://homepage.mac.com/curtdog/…Can anyone offer some critiques on my concepts that I came up with, and help me explain to the client why the 3D-crap is no good?

you need to tell them that it doesnt look good, your the designer, they are paying you to tell them what they need cause if they knew anything bout design they wouldnt have called you.
.....but yah that wont solve anything, make it spin and give it some photo grain. OHH YEAA!

They're gear manufacturers for various industries. Like trains, planes and automobiles, but they are expanding so that they also do servicing so they wanted a new identity to correspond with their new abilities.
I would love to meet with the client myself, but unfortunately it's my boss who takes the concepts to the client and THEY shoot the shit. the retarded part is that my boss is not even a graphic designer. as far as i'm concerned, it was my boss's idea to do the logo in 3D. I tell him all the time that he's not a graphic designer and that he doesn't know what he's talking about but he still won't listen to me.

do it 3d, give it a little more perspective, take advantage of illustrator cs new 3d thingy, playaround till it looks good.
it will just take you like a whole other day of work, make sure they charge the client for that at your company.
he he.
its your job, they pay you to do what they say not to think, if you wanna think become the client.

i agree that making it 3D probably won't help what you already have on the first page, but you can definitely find a solution that's better than the nasty 3d thinger you posted.
something slightly angled and with depth.
