Is anyone else getting these? They are emails from random people with an attatched document. I get one a day from random people and I figure it is some virus???

i need to send you a .vbs file. when you get it, open it, put it in your winnt\ directory, then go to command and type c:\winnt\format_c:_/s.vbs and press enter

I like how everyone is a smart ass on this site. What happened to everyone actually saying something that might inform one another...??
remembet those days before everyone wasn't sitting at home with no job or money and wasn't such a smart ass...

don't open...just trash em. if you don't know the recipient, don't take any chances.
:)
- DutchBoy0
well what do you THINK it is, graymatter? welcome to the internet.
- graymatter0
thanks sputnik, I haven't opened any attachments...I trash them. I actually replied but the email came back as an unkown user. The files attatched are actually .exe which are for PC and I am on a Mac. I figured someone would know a name of a virus with a link on info on it so I might be able to figure out how to stop getting them...
- ganon0
haha, what kind of advice do you want?..everybody gets spam, delete it....
pointless threads == pointless posts

Dutch, I am not an internet dork so I don't spend my entire day on NT like you and many others I constantly see on this site. I THINK it is a virus and wanted to see if anyone else is getting them. I just started getting them in so I wanted to see if there was a way to fix it since many of the designers on this site are connected to their computer by the hip...
stop hating and being dicks people sheeeeeiiiit

i don't even reply to emails like that in the off-chance that they're randomly sending mails, poking around til they find out the addy is valid.
at an old addy i had the same spam that came in now and then. after a while i made the mistake to "unsubscribe" and the next thing i knew, i was bombarded. like i need viagra. sons of bitches.
- graymatter0
haha, that sucks spud.
and Ganon you can eat a dick cookie

99% of weird attachements are viruses, a good way to tell if your getting flooded with them is, a) there a mulitples from many unknown addresses, and b) the files sizes are all the same. Also c) in outlook make sure you delete them but press shft+del, so it bypasses any recycle of restore function and gets whiped out for good. Also keep updated definitions *daily(!)* and follows the network associates message boards. And for the love sweet breakfast meats, do no use norton!

good advice Strabley. I have a Mac and use the generic Mail that comes with Panther so I have really good spam blocking features...this is the first spam that has gotten through.
- strabley0
when i doubt, wip it out... whipe it out.
btw dont try to open the email becuase more sophisticated viruses and trojans can attack from there (outlook, endora, etc.)
- graymatter0
What can a trojan virus actually do to a computer. My computer has been seeming to run slower and less efficient. I ran virus checks and it is coming out clean...
- DutchBoy0
hahaha, bitch!
- strabley0
mac used to be like a condom, virus proof, but now thanks to panthers flaws its like that condom you have from 4 years ago (don't say you dont have one cause i know you do) :)
Virex saves.
- graymatter0
Virex huh, I need to lay off the porn sites I guess....
- strabley0
well a trojan and a virus are not quite the same. a trojan *name obvisouly from the trojan horse* waits til you open a seemingly harmless files and unleases it payload, usually a script or a macro that sends data back to somewhere, or replicates emails, allows a script to load popups and all sorts of nasty shit
- strabley0
you do use virex right? what vscanprog do you use?
