For my own style I would lead from behind. Don't allow your decisions to be overridden if you are the definite leader, don't disparage other people, allow people to come up with things and talk them through. You can still lead your way to your desired result even without being definitely agressive in your leadership style.

however some might call that manipulation. I think it's intelligent leadership... my opinion?

one for prepress and who can solve problems fast and accepts constructive critisism, and one really hot female or male bioch who i could ask with no problem if everything is going ok and who can also do my job so i sit and watch... (guys gotta be as detail oriented as a cute teenager with her make up)
anyways, speaking seriously, i think 2 guys good and who listen to critics and defend their points of view, is more than enough.
and for the interview i would just give them an asignment in photoshop and illustrator and whatch them use the tools.
(no need to be organize, just good)

be a good director. let people think and feel like they have value to the project but make sure you maintain the status of HNIC.

Treat everybody equally, no matter how older or how much more experience other people have had. Also, let everyone be involved don't leave anyone out....and listen to what each person has to say at meetings....and more importantly make it a laugh, no one likes working with miserable bastards..
