I have a smaller jpg and gif that I want to make a poster of....
how can I blow this up - I hear that if I convert it to a vector I can enlarge it???

uhhhhh
you could just change the image size?
it'll be blurry as hell!

if you blow it up, it will look blown up anny ways, there are no tricks, but there are tricks to make them look less blown up.
enlarge them like in steps of 10%, like if you want to enlarge an image 100% do ten repetitions of 10%, i think that works, but ive never seen much diference ever.
for a poster stick to hi res images.

converting it to vector with something like adobe streamline will just give you a really arty looking graphic that somewhat resembles the original.

bring into flash, trace bitmap, export to illustrator....

fuck all that jazz, your not going to get antyhing quality. Print it out normal sized on a dye sub printer then scan it, but you probably dont have access to something like that so do the 10% englage but then used adobes smart blur to mask some of the shittiness.

dare i say, print it out and photograph it hi-res at a large setting. eg. HiRes TIFF 2500px

it'd be better just to scan it if your going to print it out, you'll keep the perspective aligned and there is less photoshopping.
