oh f*ck.
I was having the logic board on my G4 PowerBook replaced , and the monkeys at my service centre LOST ALL MY FILES. Email address, contacts, apps, invoices, and endless doo-dads = bye. This has come as a total shock as I was told that it was a routine job. It's like having a small house fire. All data is lost, 'cept a few gigs of MP3's...great.
LESSON LEARNED. BACK UP YOUR SHIT ON A REGULAR BASIS.
So, I'm starting over. Please send all cards, brushes, patterns, gradients, nonsense vetor art, advice, and well wishes to finn@fenkell.ca
Thank-you NT, you're my only hope...

indeed. i feel terrible...

isn't all data recoverable? Unless its a new HD There are specialists that can recover deleted data
- sauerbraten0
data recovery costs a TON, you could buy a new computer for the cost. it's not worth it in most cases.
- Soler0
just a thought :-] how much?
- rasko40
I bet the ser4vice centre were really apologetic weren't they? yeah shuure they were.
cunts :(
- Soler0
actually, THEy should pay for the data recovery. word

was it an apple care authorized repair...if so..I bet you signed some fine print that doesn't hold them responsible for anything with data loss...
I sent my laptop in to get a logic board swapped...and it came back with a new 'clean' 60gb hard drive....so I know how you feel!

yep, i'm essentially f*cked.
going to ask for a discount on an extrnal storage drive though...that's the least that they could do...
also, thanks to the Apple Care I just bought, all this is free. takes a little sting out of the kick in the nuts I'm dealing with.

that sucks man.. but really you should always back up your shit before you ship out your computer to get fixed... I would never trust anyone with all those files.

thank-you Captain Obvious. i was assured that it was a routine procedure, and no back-up was nescessary. i now know better...

i had a HD crash last march...lost over 4 years of work. i almost cried.
- ribit0
call me something obvious too... but if you have anything of value on your HD...you should always assume it is going to get stolen/blow up/get hit by an asteroid/whatever at any time... go get a big Firewire HD and some backup software...it's not that expensive for (almost) total peace of mind...

yeah ive lost a lot of shit before, my hard drive in my box now is getting shaky, fucking sucks cause i have about 200 gig, most of it music and only maybe 40 of it program files, everything else is collected and made stuff for the past 4 years, if my box up and died i would probably sersiouly cry, then get serisouly drunk and punch a hole in my wall.

you deserved it for buying a mac

Yeah you should have bought a PC so when it broke you could have just ran to Kmart and got another one, or just borrowed your grandmother's PC for awhile. Some Kmart are open 24 Hours you know...

happens to all computers.
lost everything i had, probably 2 yrs of work/music/stuff all because one of my RAM cards crashed and wouldnt boot windows. FUCKERS.
ah well. im alive.
