anyone recoomend any, i need an external firewire one, rewriteable, and preferably 8x. what are good. i was recommended this but its a bit pricey,

That is pretty cheap.
External ones run at least $100 more than internal, for the protection and power source.
I paid $250 for my internal one a little over a year ago.
Look at Sony's, too, they used to be the most compatible and reasonably priced. But LaCie has a good rep, too.

I stand by the brand Lacie. We have had Firewire drives and DVD burners from other brands and always ended up with same lame ass problem. But since we started using Lacie we have not had a problem. Plus you can get the Porsche series!
