fancy trendy flyers for fancy trendy clubs.

aimed at class A (rich fashion victim boys and girls, 25 to 38 or something)

why i ask, i leave in a country were only like one or 2 guys are making nice stuff, and i wanna see nicer stuff for inspiration.

since im very influenced with NY stye of design since i lived there, my work gets rejected a lot unless i dominicanize it. but i still insist on doing it that way since the style here was the style there 3 years ago.

and i dont feel like vectorizing drinks and happy people on X.

this is very comercial work, so i hope you dont trash me for looking for extra trendy inspiration 2004.

    thanks.

  • BonSeff0

    yup, eyecandy.
pick a chromecoat stock paper too.
c'mon surfito! you are an old schooler nt guy. i cant see you selling out for rave flyer shit. dont do it

  • surfito0

oh, the rave flyers i do kick ass, lol, not too long ago i did whole sasha ad campaign, for a rave here, staff shirts and everything, and have done a few more, and theres danny howells around the corner.

but i was working at a crappy ad agency for the past 2 month, that really made me a crappy designer, lol. they do ugly shit and i had to go by their standards.

    look.

that the work that comes out from that company.

i didnt do it, but im the guy looking at the giant ear.

so i quit, and went back to my old job in new media.

  • sauerbraten0

i think the ear thing is pretty fucking sweet, apply some saul bass style to it.. it'd own.

anyway, you should like do letterpressed show flyers, i mean break out of the shit with like FUCKING WAY TOO MUCH INFO AND LIKE 50 DJS and all that crap, just make it stand out, you got half of the shitheads there if you can manage that!

using uncoated stock probably isn't an option, practically speaking, but that would be cool.

  • surfito0

youre right, basicly here no one is using all that info on rave flyers, only one guy out there and he sometimes is good, but sometimes goes overboard with text.

i on the other hand, almost never use text and use simple illustrations and avoid using the djs face depending on the client, and of course the dj, i did a really nice flyer for billy shane a dj from ny, in very nice stock, almost like cardboard, with a slight coat on it, i will photographi it and show it here.

but the ussue here is that, this is not just a flyer and not a rave flyer.

its a brand new club/lounge/bar im not so sure yet, for very selected people were if everything works well its gonna be a full acount.

the first thing i have to do is a nice big sing for the door anouncing that a bar will open there soon, i almost got the creativity down, and soon will do everything from the logo to all the other stuf i will propose.

im working for their PR company, and i know what they like, and the owners im pretty sure went to ibiza Spain to do some research on what a cool bar is (lol).

so im a bit intimidated since is my first job that big and i want to do something really hot, and it must be done quite fast.

so this job is a bit more demanding than that of a rave flyer which doesnt need that much market research from me since im a raver sort of speak.

basicly, i wanna do a really good job, cause i wanna go freelance full time soon.

    -----

the ear thing, the creativity is good, but the design is as best as it gets cause its the boss's vision, who is somebody who i respect a lot till he gets his hands on photoshop, or makes a coment on the design.

  • sauerbraten0

well that sounds pretty shit-hot surf, now you're in the realm of ID development and stuff, that's exciting. come up with a concept so badass that it will do nothing but attract clientelle. if the demographic is rich or whatever, i'd say less is more, since they are so important, and this is so exclusive, need not advertise, etc. VIP only type shit, nothing guilded.. i always thought iit would be sick to just scap it all and since this is a club (that really doesn't need all that much of a logo per se) but just have the whole thing like RED and like the name, and then people would be totally remember that there's this uber-exclusive place and it's got a cool name and the fucking entire place is RED, they'd be all "OMG, OMG, TEH PLACE WAS RED AND WE SIPPED CRISTAL.."

whatever, i just think that less is more shit for who you're going after is l337.

  • surfito0

you see, there you go, the sketches are all red, im using helvetica thin and all it says things like, bar here. soon your night will be different, and whatever i come up. thats just for the sign which willl be a red billboard by the door. but as i write this, i just tought of a flag.

    thanks.

    :)

  • sauerbraten0

    oh snap! that's cool.

i seriously doubt your choice of helvetica thin.. it's way played like fucking hell right now, even though you seemed to have NOT typed 'neue' but it's still played hard..

and with club flyers, etc. i mean isn't that the graveyard for sans serif.. or God help us.. pixel fonts.. eww. it's just like that WE NEED SUPER CLEAN TYPE, CUZ LIKE WE USE ELECTRONICS AND SHIT...

it'd be tight to throw Baskerville up in that bitch or something, small caps up in their Alizé mugs..
