book was great, im not so big on the whole religous thing..
but i read this book twice since i bought it already

i don't know much about it, but i've heard from many sources that the entire thing is fiction and conjecture but ppl take it for fact..

ya, a friend reading it said that in the book it states that all references to da Vinci’s work are fact.
I’m a bit skeptical of that

I just finished it and really enjoyed it. I heard that it is a huge consiracy theory that is wrapped around 5 or 6 legit facts, which seems about right after reading it.

make sure if you read it you read other commentaries about it as well as rebuffs to Dan Brown's claims and statements....

tony, here's my collection of notes on the topic:

sounds like a lot of the initial hype about it being real has died down, (and highly responded to)

excellent, thanks Ryan

No problem.

The instution of Rome is a a blasphemy and a lie.
The knights of the temple knew that and were silenced.
Their last home, Tomar, its said to have most of the answers.

If you like the The DaVinci Code check out Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco, it's super entertaining, thoughtful and loaded with bizarre useless knowledge you can regale your friends with.

i don't think it's good because it's well written or innovative, but transforming these facts, semi-facts, and "blasphemous" elements should be applauded. It makes for an interesting read. I mean, maybe like five or six years back I read these non fiction books like 'holy blood, holy grail' and books on the te mplars, i wouldn't have necessarily thought they would become the ingredients for a bestseller....but it beats a lot of the other crap commuters read.

you guys should read Aviad Kleinberg's article: The Feminist Mystique. Aviad is a Jewish scholar from Tel Aviv University. It's an interesting perspective because he doesn't have any invested interest in the agenda of Brown, or conservative Christian response to Brown.
it's offline, but i copied it before it was taken down:

Be sure to read it's response...

"The instution of Rome is a a blasphemy and a lie."
yes it is. so long as you even believe in a catholic god, otherwise its just plain fairytale.

a half truth is more dangerous than a lie.

i read "angels & demons" by the same author and thought that it was pretty weak. i consider it barely entertaining. it was simply a cheap thriller novel with a church setting. i can't imagine that he improve too dramatically for "the da vinci code" and so i haven't taken the time. the church (catholic or whatever...) is full of corruption as it is made of imperfect people. i am sure that all kinds of scandal and manipulation can be unearthed. i wouldn't however, base my belief or disbelief upon this poorly conceived work. the failings of religous leaders does not disprove the faith (though it certainly doesn't help). look harder...

Religious leaders certainly aren't perfect, but then neither are the rest of us...
I guess that's why being a Christian isn't about being perfect, but actually about being forgiven.
