Is there any way that I can import an animated banner made in after effects ('720 x 250') into premiere so that it sits at the bottom of the 720x576 monitor?
Sorry if that makes no sense.

Export it out in AFX, then import it in to Premiere and place it on the bottom.
Sounds easy enough to me, but I haven't used Premiere since Final Cut came out.

yeah exactly... Someone else is doing the Premiere business... I just tried it in premiere and I can't see how you move the clip down to the bottom. :(

why not create a new composition in AE and pull in your premiere file and then drag your other comp into the new comp?

That's what I originally said this to the dude editing it. But they won't give me the premiere files to do that:(. grr grr n grr. Ah well. thanks anyway.

I don't use premiere, but why can't they just place it where ever they want to.
or.
In AFX Create the comp the size of the premiere file and do the animation at the bottom, then export it out with alpha. When dropped in Premiere it should be at the bottom with the top transparent.

I agree with gfro, make a new composition window to match (not sure if you're NTSC or PAL), move your comp to the bottom and export out a targa sequence with RGB + Alpha.
Sounds like your editor is not so great though.... to put it nicely.

haha thanks chaps.. I'll try the alpha sequence. :)

Let's see it.

in premiere you can set the clips "motion".. basically you have to set the start point and the end point both to the bottom of the screen...
if it's a version before premie pro came out, I think it was like CTRL-Y or something brought up the motion controls...
if it's pro, even easier: go to effects controls> motion> position...

I just tried it with a wee tester animation at the correct size, but when I import it into premiere it stretches to fit premieres monitor window.
(it's premiere pro)
