I am thinking of changing my career path to go into Motion Graphics for tv ,movies, etc. I have been doing web based motion design, primarily flash, for the past six years, and I still enjoy it. However, broadcast quality motion graphics excites me more because of how much richer and smoother the animation is, as well as the fact that there are no file size limitations.

I would love to get advice from motion designers out there, as to what a good plan of attack would be for pursuing this career path. Also I would love to hear from people like myself, who started out animating in flash on the web, but are now working in the motion design industry, or are thinking about it . Any advice as to how to pursue this career path? I started out by buying two After Effects books, so I think that is a start. Also, any online motion graphics resources, articles, etc, would be much appreciated.

    I thank you in advance!!

welcome to the exciting world of motion graphics.
    step 1:
Learn after-effects like a shaolin monk.
step 2: learn to code your own work and do it creatively and with the mind of a painter. An artistic person who can create their own effects out of algebra and not just a plug-in = design God status. I know...I've seen it happen.
step 3: learn typography. I've seen so many reels that were amazing until you see some crappy type in motion. dead give-away of an amateur.
step 4: hard-to-find adidas sneakers and "funky" glasses. An Asian significant other helps a lot too...
    step 5: shouldn't neeed one...cuz you're already there.
    good luck.
