if i need to advertise for my website what would be ur ideas of getting a few people to visit the site - which types sites would u suggest - i.e. large commerical search engines or more demographical targeted small sites that provide something to the communitity

you could do guerilla advertising. Flyers, ads, put your website on the back of matches, etc. Otherwise do sponsored links like at Google

the question is WHO do you want to visit your site and why?
Are you selling something and are looking for buyers? or are you looking for like minded people to visit? i'd spend the $400 very differently depending on the WHO.
