what standard sizes do you use? I did a find but it said 'warning: impode .... something or other' so thought I better stop.
I normally work to approx. 780x420 - can I go over 800 pix wide safely these days?

eg NT is 868 wide?

1024x768 is becoming the standard resoulution.
but I think that designing a site for a 800x600 audience it's a good exercise in space managment....

780*420
780*600 max.Vertical scrollbars are less annoying then horizontal ones.

I'm pushing it out to 860 and will hold NT responsible. ta

The NT audience is different from your avergae internet audience - which is why NT is allowed to get away with a little bigger than 800x600
Corporate world: still very big 800x600
