all hip hop is done... like Jay-Z, NAS, Gangstarr, ..etc. ever sounded differnet from album to album- the whole formula is played- it's all TV commericals anymore or made for white boys in Nebraska to pretend they are gansta...
Things were better around 1991-95 when the music was about just that- no fancy videos- no bling- no jet airplanes and gold toliet seats- just a bunch of talent guys with something to say.

i saw the beastie boys last summer at field day and they were awful...mixmaster mike was real tight, but no one could follow his beats and they kept fucking up lyrics and cadence...what kind of mcs cant rhyme over a cut up beat? that new stuff was real boring too...

I don't understand this "this music all sounds the same so it can't be any good" idea. It's a genre of music, a style, and if an artist has a style that's working for them, they're supposed to change it every album to make us super cool designers happy because we change our website design every 7 months after someone puts a deer with some drips on their homepage?
