can you play avi files on quicktime pro or do you need to purchase plug-in?

good question... i'd like to know too. the only avi's i can seem to read are the ones that come from my dig. camera.

i have Quicktime installed for my mac os9.2.2 and i can play AVI without installing anything else.

depends on the codec i guess, but i never had an avi that i couldn't see.
but maybe you can post a link here to an avi you can't see.

you need to install codec's for some, and still some dont seem to play, I use ML Player (osx) for shit that wont open on anything else, its a freebie.

sorry, its just M Player...
it aint great but it plays pretty much anything

ha ha. thanks. i just downloaded MPLAY multimedia player, and it obvisouly aint the right one.

mplayer is ok for avi's but you cant fastforward or rewind the movie with VLC you can!

this one plays almost any format:
