i am seeing more and more sites as .net... what are your thoughts? is it ok for a company to have a .net url and still "look" like a big company?
- jevad0
yes.
If the .com is taken - its taken
- peteski0
play by the rules, .net is for service providers so, if you're a service provider - its ok.
- jevad0
oh man people have been using .net for ages who aren't service providers...it's so not an issue anymore
- slinky0
if you can get a good .net then GET IT...
"Think outside the box"... haha

i don't think it really matters. I hardly even notice the extension of a domain anymore.

i have this idea that .com is best, then .org, then .net
this is how i feel when i evaluate a site (in some cases, according to content, .org is best)
is this totally off?
- enobrev0
well considering most sites are reached through a link or bookmark, i have a hard time believing it matters. maybe on your business card and paper materials, and then only once.
If the site itself is appealing or useful, then it could be a .fuckoff and it would do well.

I agree it doesn't really matter but still think .com is the best.

.info
.biz
.tk
rocks

in order i think they should go as:
.com
.co.uk
.net
.tv
.org
.org.uk
you can't beat a .com but it really depends on who would be visiting. If you're getting no-brain users that are new to the net they won't think of trying a .net extension

With everyone wanting to have '.com' to seem important (we did), it just means the whole naming system has failed in a way... Nobody really wants the other extensions, so here we are having to put this stupid redundant 'htt p:// ', www, AND .com to just about every 'big' address... It wasn't meant to be this way?
(Berners-Lee was asked what he would have done differently about the web... his answer: 'http ://')

i have a .net and a .info ..
some registrars can also get .museum or .name etc.
or other countries extensions like .cy (cyprus)

A man should not be judged by the extension on his/her name, but on...
the ties he has to corporations and big business.

i never knew .net was for service providers only... also i thought .org was for organizations only and non-profits...
- jo30
nah, i don't think that will hurt it's image.
and you can register .org domains without any hassle of being an actual orginization - god love the internet!
