i know this is not a tech forum, but worth a shot...
my cd drive is not working... when i put a cd in it, i can tell it reads the cd becase i get the little cd icon next to the cursor, but when i open the cd drive there is nothing on the cd(i put in a msic and data cd). if i try to record a cd, it tells me to insert a blank cd, even if one in there.
i tried removing the cd drive from device manager and restart and then re-add nothing. any ideas?

physically open up your computer, check to see if your drive is connected to your motherboard. make sure you reinstall drivers. etc, etc.

i did open it up and jiggle stuff around.
i know it is connected because when i insert a cd i get the cd drive next to the cursor.
i am going to try to track down a new set of drivers, i was just letting window install them, maybe there was an error there

ldww, I would FOR SURE go to the manufacturer site and look for latest sets of drivers, etc. It cannot hurt you, the same for your video and sound cards, you might want to check to see what you need. Go to Start->Run-> type in 'dxdiag' if you are on PC it will give you a look at your DirectX options. ;)

its more than likely not the drivers. if your using windows xp, right click on the drive and tell it to delete temp files. if it has something cached to burn then it won't reco a data cd until those files are dealt with. is that dosent work, tryin a cleaner cd, more than like that wont work, so if all fails just buy a new drive, office max in my city had a a 4x dvd burner for $60 after rebates. and a cd writer it only like $40 now these days anyways

check to see whom your manufactures are for your sound and video cards, that way you can update, it doesn't hurt especially with XP, it's faulty.

www.windowsupdate.com will scan for updated drivers on your box. also sound/video card won't have anything to do with your cd rom drive. what os are you using?

that's true it doesn't, I was just stating that it wouldn't hurt you. Windows Update does do a lot for you, but you might want to just go and check for a driver update from the manufacturer of your CD-ROM drive.
