hello all, i have been working on updating my portfolio site. its not there yet, owing to approx 80 % of the screen being entirely redundant currently. all feedback and suggestions as to its possible use gratefully recieved

maybe you can try another font, this one is hard to read.

mr thomas,
there's a lot of nice accoutrements on there son. to get miriam stoppard and charlie dimmock for the same price is quite impressive. but one thing that worried me was the image for wfh.fm ... is that a gay ??

thoughts:
ditch the background gradient. eSPECIALLY the chrome effect at the bottom. i usually kill people for that. i say go solid with the bg. a light color. beige even.the black shapes on the left are nice.
ditch the colors in the top menu. they do nothing for you.
if you want minimal, then go minimal. if you want decorative, then go decorative. with what you have, i say go minimal.
if you isten to nothing else i say, aat least get rid of that background!!! solid solid solid!
ok. i'm done reaming you. :)
welcome to Newstoday!
we all float down here!

dayjob. probably not for much longer if they find out. the font, caslon, is a bit of a favourite but i see your point. want to keep it serif. and the guy. thats paul lekakis of "boom boom lets go back to my room" fame. supplied by friend. was going to be "Voyage Voyage" by desireless but i don't suppose thats much better.

i can respect wanting the minimal thing, but i had no clue as to what to do when i got to your site. first i tried to click on the colors at the top... the fonts are VERY hard to read. there is no mouse over on your buttons so i did not know to click on them.. and it seems like the menu is awfly long... if i wanted to look at all your work i would have to do a whole lot of scrolling and closing of pop up windows.... which means that i never would have made it all the way through

Change the font - hard to read.
And you need change the cursor if there's a link - otherwise no one will know it's there.
Otherwise - what they all said.

yep that gradients kind of wilfully perverse until i find more meaningful way of suggesting depth.
- carver0
yeah, but is it a GAY?
- carver0
may i suggest some meaningful ways of suggesting depth?

re. the cursor how do i do that? my knowledge of html's slight to say the least. currently a simple java command to pop up in new browser done through dreamweaver

Thomas, nice to see you, to see you nice in Newstodays little world. You're screen name is apt, a glorious debut thread in motion.. kinda... roll on!
- hooked0
er do i know you? the names just fabricated conditionally until.

right- i've made better use of that gradient, and the colour bar at the top. no joy with the cursor though as yet- is there an easy way to do it on dreamweaver?

bugger. just noticed that 2 pixel border that really messes up that rain thing.
another rreally basic question (i am new to all this) can you use an anmiated gif as a background image without slowing it considerably? only still rain is pretty lame.
