ok heres my question in freehand i can simpliy grab my pointer and drag a line to curve it......how on earth is that done in Illustrator???

Use the direct selection pointer. Press the A on your keyboard. Then hold down your option and click and drag... tadah

i select A then hold down Ctrl and drag but all it dose is move the line around, it dosnt bend the line like i wont it to do...... :(

Sorry. Add a point by using your pen tool. The direct selection tool then adds bezier curves to any point.

And hitting the A key is a shortcut to selecting the direct selection tool. Every tool has a corresponding keystroke shortcut.

i draw a dox with my pen tool and close the path, i then select direct selection tool and hold down either Ctrl,Shift or Alt and none of those work,,,,,,,,,,here people r telling me its the same as freehand(yeah right) all its doing is moving the line
am i doing something wrong????

ROM, mate sorry. Thought you were on a MAC. Try using your pen tool and holding down your option key, this should allow you tyo modify a points bezier curves.
Sorry if I sent you astray. I know the frustration, I oncve tried going over to Freehand on a PC.
