so Intel's Centrino doesn't provide anything new or innovative. it's a fictional technology that simply renames Wi-Fi and makes Intel the inventor. How can they do that? It's dumb.

You're right xrusos, it's just a name that will tell customers the centrino laptop will give them good battery life (like a mac), be wi-fi capable (like all macs), and have a good processor (that isn't as good as a Mac's).
I like how the commercial shows a couple on vacation in the ruins of Greece or something AND they're on the internet wirelessly. So, uh, Athens is one big 'hot spot'?

Blah, don't hate :P
- PuFFi0
Is it what I think it is ?
- mg330
I hate that the ads were EVERYWHERE for awhile.
- xrusos0
it's as if you can't be wireless without "centrino"
stupid.

"I hate that the ads were EVERYWHERE for awhile."
Just like the Internet in their ad.

I guess people who buy into the "Internet access everywhere" bit are people who think that there really are computer screens like in Minority Report.
The kind of people who watch Enemy of the State and suddenly become very paranoid and think everything depicted in the movie is real.

idiots
i got a centrino laptop and it works perfectly. quiet, fast small.
so what if their ads where everywhere. apples ipod ads are all around us, so does that make them uncool?

I thought is was akin to cell phone technology... that you could be anywhere a cell phone gets coverage and get online?

why is the apple wireless router called the airport? I have had numerous apple users that thought that they needed an airport to connect wirelessly.
when apple does it is called marketing when anyone else does it, its stupid. so whatever.
- xrusos0
centrino is 802.11g.
the only way i can attempt to justify their crazy marketing is to compare it to Apple's Firewire. Apple tried to explain IEEE 1394 (complex name) in an easy to grasp concept: Firewire). But the difference is that the firewire standard was created by Apple. And 802.11g was certainly not created by Intel! (and WiFi was around way before centrino!)

so.......
did intel say in their ads that they invented wifi?
i remeber that the g5 was the fastest procesor in the world for a couple of month, until apple discovered that it uhhhhh wasn't.
- xrusos0
The difference is that Apple doesn't have to advertise all their computers as having "All Apples feature Airport, Apple's Wireless Technology" And Airport is just a simple name for 802.11x. They clearly aren't claiming to have sole ability for wireless capability.

Basically just by a damn MAC. LOL
- Hans0
or a centrino laptop

My favorite part about all the adds is when they are in the middle of nowhere and they have a internet connection.
LOL

so this is just another example of some tech geek PC company following Apple and learning how to market to regular people?

Centrino is a piece of shit! LOL
Bluetooth even sucks on PC's.
Mac just makes a better product.
- ********0
But Intel is cool. Cool people. Happy people. We should support them for making such an awesome product.

I apologize to all the PC users out there for saying MAC is better.
Will you ever forgive me?
Just cannot help myself! I use to work on PC's.
I LOVE MAC's and LINUX
