With a background image, how do you stop it tiling and only show once

don't use it as a background image but put it in a layer that sits below the content. using it as a background image (within the body tag) always will tile it.

[style type="text/css"]
[!--
body {background-image: url(images/bg1.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat;}
/* Setting the body tag with a background-image attribute
set to background-repeat: no-repeat; will only display the image one time
(repeat is the default setting) */
--]
[/style]

each page has a different background image on, so..
can I just have the background no-repeat in the css and change the image in the html page???
or will I need a seperate bit of css for every page?
or can I put the background css bit into the html page (how do I do that?)

Those work, and you could also use.
background-attachment: fixed;
that's what I've used in the past, and it seems to work tip top.
