I pulled this directly from Clear Channel's outdoor advertising specs:
M ECHANICALS/LAYOUT SIZES 1/4”=1’
Bleed Area H 3.75” x W 12.25”
• Keep critical visual elements inside of H 3.5” x W 12”
• Digital Resolution at this scale is best at 600dpi
but can be as low as 300dpi.I recall going to clear channel when I was in college a few years back - and the final output size is nearly 16 dots PER FOOT.
I'd contact a local large format printer - or even Clear Channel (They're huge and usually rather helpful) and ask them the specifics.

shutdown I know what you mean, I do the same thing just with the thought of a print job... maybe do the glamorous design job and leave the s*&tty print stuff to someone else? hehe
- shutdown0
i can't...in fact I won't
i worked this project for over two years so i'm not handing it over to someone else to get the credit hehe

screw 'getting credit'...
... don't limit yourself to what you can and cannot do in design.
learn learn learn learn!!
you'll be that much more valuable.
(and it seems that's what you want) 8)

no, no! hell no! I mean design the billboard and let someone else do the print things

it shouldn't be too bad, i did a double page magazine ad last month so hopefully fingers crossed it'll be easy.
