Some of you might remember what Jevad suggested about a week ago - to redesign useit.com. Since that thread, like most threads lately, ended up with one nonsense post after another, nobody seemed to have taken it seriously. Well I did.
Let's discuss user-friendliness! Here's my redesign:
All css & floating columns.
Original:
http://www.useit.comWhat do you think?
- xrusos0
that'd be mad publicity if you got that through jox. more power to you! that redesign rocked. although i don't think he'd approve of the images used in the floating columns. he's sort of anti img tags. (except in google, where he's okay with the logo, as long as that's the only one.

Good idea to delineate the topical lines of text with gray boxes. That's one of my major beefs with the original design.

*Calls Jakob on the phone to participate*
- probably it's unnecessary the use of that chrome headers..
aside of that, I think it's quite usable, if I had time I'd also do a mock.

images? the shadow/border thing on the top is actually not that hard to make in css - at this point I haven't used any img's! (I'm picturing it as a html doc)

I think you have to keep it more pure to get it past JN... consistent rounded corners or not, no chrome/shadows, grey border not black?... maybe sans serif???

cool work jox - i'm impressed!
- _salisae_0
isn't a serif more reader friendly?
that's what i learned from bringhurst.

Wha?? there *was* a redesign already?? Cool, anybody else got hte link?

that guy is a douche bag. why bother even acknowledging him. the reason he has any fame is bc of things like this. ignore him he will go away.
- jox0
Damn, those are fucking great!
Guess I should've spent more than my lunchbreak doing mine.
What an embarrassment mine is.
- jevad0
omg there's been one already!!

Tyrone, I have to respectfully disagree. He's got some very valuable points, and his website is an awesome source for reference material regarding exactly what he does - user friendliness.
This has nothing to do with him as a person, it's about design using his strict guidelines, which IMO is a big frikkin challenge.

jox i hear ya. i'm all about user friendliness IN CONTEXT. There are no absolutes in communication regardless of the medium. Design is about what's applicable. And that is ALWAYS different. Depends on the audience. His take IMO is that strict standards need to be in place, and that in no way helps people communicate..

omg i should totally do a ninja style redesign lol!
