i know in photoshop you can allocate a percentage of the available memory. not sure if that holds true with every program.
are you sure you have enough memory to allocate?

i've got tons-o-ram. my specific issue is that programs are running out of memory. ie flash files quickly slow to a halt and say they need more memory. i got to the applications folder and control click on flash >> get info >> memory >> and i cannot assign more memory to the application. it will not allow me. it's not locked, i have permission, just can't select/change the numbers to give it more........freaking weird. just started since i upgraded to 10.3.3. anyone give any advice? thanks mi broddhas.....this is killing me.....

can't remember if you still need to do this in OSX, but have you assigned your scratch disks?
