glebe, surry hills, anywhere that doesnt have a beachand isnt in the eastern suburbs

Where Paul Hogan lives.

Actually you can get some cheap places in the eastern suburbs you just have to look! Randwick and Maroubra are pretty cheap and are only 5-10 min walk from the beach...
Also in the innner city there is annandale and Erskinville if you can't afford Newtown, Surry Hills or Glebe...
Then again there's also Emu Plains if u don't mind the commute and like playing pokies at Panthers :o)
happy househunting!

i'm moving to sydney sometime around the end of august/begining of september. i got a few friends there and sydney in general seems like a friendly place but it's still a big move... you got a job there waiting for you?

my friend lives in bondi beach i think its called? is that crazy expensive? he likes it quite a bit...

Where are you coming from? City and suburb?
Do you have a job? What do you like to do? Do you have a car?
All things to be considered.

live in 'the rocks'.

Bondi can be expesive, but you can aslso find afforable place there. The crazy Sydney property market seems to be cooling off a bit at last and prices are actually on the way down :)
I live in Glebe. Glebe is good, but not near the beach. It's close to the central city, but nice and leafy and close to the harbour.
Any further West than Glebe (even Annandale), you'll get nasty aircraft noise. Been there, done that, it sucks!

Bronte is pretty good, it's the next beach down from Bondi so not as many Poms and Kiwis.

there's a really nice place just to the south wets of sydney called melbourne... green and leafy, cool people, and much cheaper ;)
- inspiration0
Don't have a job yet. Will have some money though, so...
Do you guys rate Melbourne over Sydney then?
- royal6180
Again... Melbourne is better than Sydney and vice versa, all for different reasons.
I'm lived in both, prefer Melbourne as it's too humid in Sydney and the culture is lifeless. It's very crass and look at me, whereas Melbourne has the underlying funk. ;)
Then again, Melb is colder and has crap beaches.
...and so on. All depends on where you are coming from and what you value to determine which is the best fit for you.

SURRY HILLS!!!!

melbourne is great if you want culture and bad weather. sydney is great if you want to end up a sarcastic, cynical , sunburnt unhappy bastard/bitch.
i live at broadway in sydney. i have a love hate relationship with it
