So, my ipod has been crashing my mac. I haven't had a mac crash in at least a year. Wondering why, I thought it was the firewire connection. Well, now I don't think that is the case. Has anyones iPod started heating up. My ipod is hot enough to (kind of) melt my xtremeMac case, just the plastic...
wondering if anyone else has come across this.

nope!

um, mine gets hot enough barely melt butter if I happen to decide to plug it into the comp and play sogs from the ipod itself. Of course the only prob got is i dropped it one to many times and now it skips during songs. You may have a defectual ipod. Um, what kind of ipod, os, and maybe checking to make sure everything is plugged in securly, last thing maybe your ipod is defectual? I would go replace it if he warranty is still there.

mine seems to crash my mac when it's got less than a gig available on it. but never heating up, that's weird. call apple.

you sure it's an ipod and not a soldering iron?
i once thought i purchased a computer mouse but it turned out to be a .38 revolver. it took me three shots into my wall before i figured out why i wasn't clicking on the screen.
i'd double check if i were you.

lol...
it is the old ipod (10gig). I think I am just going to suck it up and buy a new one.
Anyone want to buy my new ipod hand warmer?
- k0na_an0k0
no but i would buy it if it did in fact turn out to be a soldering iron.

Break it open and see what kind of gooey mess comes out, then take pics and post on website. Yeah Baby!

burn it and perform a ritual around it and never stick those twin alien penises in your ears again

do you play songs off your iPod AND work on files on your iPod when it is on firewire drive mode.
when i bring my iPod to school and do that my iPod heats up because i put too much strain on the hardrive that has no cooling unit with it.
moral is: dont treat it like a computer. treat it like the mp3 player that it is.

i have a 1st gen 10gb. it heats up like liquid hot magma if when plugged in via firewire to charge and you do not eject the ipod icon on screen. the hd will continue to spin if you don't do this and it will overwork it. because it spins and charges and it gets the no feeling.

i have friends who want to buy the old style iPod. you're not in Toronto are you?

not sure why it's crashing your computer, but in general, you shouldn't have those plastic cases on when you're recharging. the aluminum back is meant to allow your ipod to stay cool - the plastic cases can act as insulators... still, i've never heard of it getting hot enough to melt the plastic... gl

i have a 30gb and it'll heat up if you charge through the cpu. especially if it goes past the full charge.
then i just put it in the freezer to cool it off, and then microwave to heat it back up later. it does wonders.
