Any good books on the technical aspects of print? Been doing print for 3 years and still get nervous talking to my print guy.

I'm sure that book will be good. i'd check it out if i were you.
Print work very much about knowing your options.
Ask your sales-rep to bring you some samples showing usage of metallic inks, aqueous coatings, varnishes, uncoated/coated stock, and binding methods.

dont be nervous, I have worked in the print industry for awhile, and I always perfer someone that asks instead of assumes. That way there is no moron complaining about how their work ooks like crap, when that was the way they designed it. Printing is like a computer it does exactly what you tell it to. A printer's job is hard enough without the added work of fixing a poorly design peice, not to mention thats not their job to fix the designers mistakes, if you expect them to give them a cut of the job.

Thanks! I just got a couple off of Amazon that should provide me with some insight. It was actually my uncle (a graphic designer of 12 years) who started teaching me more, and now I'm starting to get hooked on learning to do more with print then just send the files and pray they turn out exactly the way I want. Usually they do but, I decided that this will be the year to refine things.
