as far as 2A goes,
i see that as a potentially harmful trend, were clients are wowed by a visual trend that is nothing more than a technological farce.

that they can see things happen before the rest of us"

-------------------That may be appliable to some filmmakers, musicians and whatnot too... Oh, and brokers.

yes and politicians.
but that particular topic of discussion was based in post-ww1 artistic movements.

Gorbie, I agree with the harm it can do...pixel fonts, sites that don't put thought in usability or functionality, sluggish flash masturbation.
But the average joe loves it on a superficial level.

Usability should always be the highest priority. I'll keep saying that. The visual design should all be done with usability in mind. The great thing about usability is its principles are simple and straight forward... unfortunately there are so many websites which miss the point and go straight for the wow effect.

here's my point...
my girfriend just finished playing with a mouse trailer that had puppy paw prints chasing it around. she showed it to me.
i don't think she had any idea what the webpage was for, though.

Like it or not, 2advanced has dominated web desisn in number of followers, imitators, and the life-length of its trend.

they just tend to fit square pegs in round holes, sometimes.

Yeah I'm just saying, maybe it's more than a trend for them.

i think this may be off topic but to me the biggest problem is that we are not spending enough time working out the design problems. the client wants it yesterday and we end up cheating the solution, putting the project to bed and moving on to the next rush job. crazy.

wonderwagon rules punk - don't front

On a final note: Somtimes I just wonder if I'm designing for an audience of real people or just other designers online. Designing for designers=bittersweet.
- Gorbie0
that's not off-topic at all - and i whole-heartedly agree, BonSeff.
to get back to the topic this thread fist addressed, though: For an example of pretentious, lackadasical design - in the name of a trend see the "For Work or Office" thread.
