Industry standard = Sound Forge now by Sony but formerly Sonic Foundry at http://mediasoftware.sonypicture… it will allow you to do virtually anything to a waveform.

you can also use Cool Edit, Audition, Cubase, Wavelab, etc., etc., etc.

let me honest though, you are attempting to fool with an .mp3 file, they react very differently than importing and exporting .wav files which are better quality and easier to work with.

if you do end up importing in an . mp3 then make sure you try and maximize the your waveform (compress and bring up all your levels for a richer sound). .mp3's by nature are already reduced in quality from their original position.

if your attempting to loop various parts you are going to want to bring up the quality in the .mp3 and then export as .wav.

Anyone here use Vegas?

moth, Vegas Video works just as good as Sound Forge, it has the same audio editing components as Sound Forge, however, they con you in to buying the different effects and editing tools that SF already has. ;)

Pro Tools is also nice, but expensivo: http://www.protools.com Sonar is ok if you are looking for something to sequence as well: http://www.cakewalk.com/Products…

yes it is interesting, and hard to believe, but I ama living testiment.
I was just about to get rid of my g4-350 when I came across PT-Free. I now have a dedicated music/recording/mixing machine. It actually runs PT really well.
limited to 8 tracks though. Still can't beat it.

well see that's the thing, 'limited to 8 tracks', you're seriously limited to what you can do with that as a sequencer and most of those open source apps are pretty average at best. :)

arench, make sure you give a better link next time. You will get pounded here if you don't
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/…
check out my profile pic...

although I've heard good things about audacity, and can tell from those screenshots that it will at least allow you to slice and dice waveforms, I can tell you in no way does it come close to the power of Sound Forge.

JazX,
true, true..
It works grrreat for what I use it for. I am just a basement producer of my own didy's. If you do more than just dork around, you need something more, unless you are savvy at bouncing tracks reeeely well...

gotcha'! ;) good luck with that stuff.... Although, SForge v1.0 started out pretty average as well. They could suppe that audacity up and run with it. Are you on PC or Mac or both? They say that Garageband and Soundtrack are very nice apps for Mac and that's why all the Mac Audio App companies are quiting and going PC.
