very nice, I like it. Although the kerning on the word speed is not very good. Either needs to be very close together, or further apart. Best thing to do is just copy and paste like 30 different ones. then change the spacing on each one. Then don't look at them for a few hours and the winner will jump out at you.

Make ''speed'' bolder and see what happens. I 'm sure it would look much better .

Oh, and press a backspace before 1923

thanks guys.. very helpful
anyone else?

I lik ethe weight of speed, especially next to such a light icon. I would just clean up the space between the letters and you're golden

Try some size variations. Should the mark be larger than the word? or vice versa? Think about applications, too. How would it look on a business card? Or the side of a building?

Possibly work on positioning (like putting mark on top of text) and definitely tighten up the kerning.

The mark is thin... have you tried using this logo against different colors or in gray?
It also strikes me as strange that "Speed" and the text elow it ALLLLLMOST line up on the right but not quite.

thanks for all the suggestions.. I definitely need to work on the text... any suggestions on the icon itself?
- Soler0
icon itself looks good. like it a lot. agree with earlier comment you may want to play with the size of it compared to the text.

What if the line art was the same size as the text stacked and '1923' was turned counter clockwise 90 degrees. 'School of Engineering would be kerned so that it forms a rectangle with 'SPEED'
( i don't know!?!??!)or
me being an architect, i like perspective. So why not try to have the text in the same perspective or angle as the line art? This could allow for depth and juxtaposition of information.
i hope i helped. and i also agree with the other comments about kerning above.
best.

Get a more distinct typeface for "Speed." Something thicker, probably. Otherwise, the mark is wonderful. Good luck!

Try a Frank Lloyd Wright Font.
The logo ist bad, I just dont get a feeling of engeneering from it, more like a photo developmen place. Dont add any color! Look up the word speed and engineering in both the thesaurus and the dictionary and see what theme pops out at you. You might want to try angling the S so that is gives the impression of movement.

I hate to say it, but it doesnt work at all with the traditional ellements of the univerity's stamp. It would be more fuctional in a new media school.

thanks for the help guys
"it doesnt work at all with the traditional ellements of the univerity's stamp"
were you referring to the first version I posted or the second version. the reason I scrapped my first ver was cause I thought it was too new school to be on letterheads with the louisville minerva logo

i don't think the 'seal' thing is going with your isometric-style mark. the mark has the information graphics sensibility and i feel that works best in concert with sans serif, etc. like you had in the first comp.
good marks usually have very good weight/balance, they're not flimsy.. the line thickness in the logo may not be strong enough to create a solid mark that can work well with type and at large/small sizes.
i liked the first direction, although you need to kern the space between P/E, remember letters with rounded sides should be closer than letters that share parallel sides.
hope what i just typed made sense..
