I'm looking for driving directions to Los Angeles from NYC. Mapquest's route sucks, and Yahoo! maps is moderately better.
Is there a good website out there with a better driving route? Any personal experience? Please share...
Driving solo...anyone need a lift?

why dont you go to AAA... the would have the best routes and also wouldn't be bad if you signed up, you don't want to get stuck on your route.

aaa gives you a "trip tic" - just find someone with the membership and ask them to get it for you. they'll lead you around detours and other mishaps.

yep. 30 beans a year for AAA. they will give you a map with a highlighted route.
they change your flat, give you gass. tow etc. if your lost, give them a call & they will give you directions

Depends if you want scenic or not...
For brevity's sake, I'd take 80 thru to Chicago, then continue on 80 to 76 to Denver. Then Denver to Vegas, the Vegas LA. It's boring as can be in between NY and Chicago, Chicago and Denver. But that's why the MidWest is the midwest.
If you wanna take the scenic route, once in illinois, you could do Route 66 all the way west.

one2meny is exactly right. I've done the trip a bunch of times. The southwestern part of Utah is dope. Pennsylvania SUCKS to drive through. it's seems like as soon as you get out of Penn. you're in Cali.

So which route do you recommend? Yahoo! maps suggests that route through chicago and denver, I think...def. the front-runner.
Is Rt. 66 worth it? How much extra time to go that route? Also, is this drive bearable solo, and how quickly do you think I can bang it out? The quicker the better...

I've been through some smaller parts of Rout66 and I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to make the trip a holidya - the roads are old and full of potholes - in many cases the new highways are pretty close to where the old ones were, you just don't drive through as many actual towns.

Thanks folks. Yes, some homework on Rt. 66 told me it's pretty much not worth it this time around. I guess I'm looking for a nice, quick route that goes thorugh some major cities so I don't get bored out of my mind...

Leavin' the polluted air behind...for smoggy LA air! Yeah, you can have my apartment and my $1600 rent. For $850, I get a garage for my car and a bedroom that is 60 seconds (walkin s. cali surfer-dude style) from the sand! Whoohooooo!
Time for a little lifestyle change, that's all...but I'll be bi-coastal cuz my family and most of my clients are here.
