Recruitment BS!

Hi all,
I just got off the phone from a recruitment agency who I won't mention but I'm sure you can guess.
After 2 weeks of emails, them calling me and me calling them we finally talk about coming in for an interview.
Then before I come in they just wanted to check what my hourly rate is? I tell them $ and they say well gee are you neg., I say yes and come down by $5.
They say well thats a lot more than what we generally deal with, which is bullshit as I'm getting more from another agency in the same city.
Then put me on hold just to try and see if I'm gonna be desperate and say yes when they come back.
I didn't. I ask what they think the normal industry rate is and they say that they can't tell me? WTF!
Urrgggg! I hate SOME recruitment agencies!
Any one else had similar BS from agencies?

any company that makes money off people for doing jack shit isnt worth talking to. recruiting agencies are the devil. find a freelance recruiter, or a smaller agency.

I am yet to find a single one that prvides any level of service....and I mean actual real service, in terms of research, and indistry understanding.
However, there is one that lurks on the boards here whose offered to prove me wrong though. Maybe I will get the chance to see.

i've found smaller ones to be much easier to deal with but then they dont get as much work...
although i had one who worked from his mobile (while hanging out in the south of france) who barely ever payed and ofcourse you could never get hold of him either.

i like aquent, they take care of all the contract stuff but they haven't gotten me any work in a long time.

Heard so many mixed things about them..they set themselves up as being such industry partners too.
