So Amazon launched a new search engine; http://www.a9.com.
I'm liking the "site info" I get upon every hit, but other than that, I don't know. I'm guessing that starting up a new search engine isn't the brightest move to make these days. Especially since they don't offer anything particulary new.

well, it just seems to use the same database as google, the results come up pretty much the same so..err.. whatever.

I suppose they have nothing to lose.
I would have thought a search for anything that Amazon sells would turn up a bunch of Amazon links... but it doesnt. So if its not a marketing tool, why would they do it? good question

Did you just told yourself "good question"? :)

i take that back, it does seem to include an amazon search and prioritise the findings over the google type search results

nope sorry, i was wrong. the results are identical to google.

Yes, I was just going to say that. Seems all they've done is connect themselves the Google database for their own benefit.
Ha - they even have their own toolbar! And guess what? It has the same functions!

There is the book results tab on the right though... which is just amazon links.
the right hand side tabs are a weird thing from the kings of web usability.
