I've got up to $2,500 dollars to spend on a laptop. Most of my freelance work uses heavy doses of flash, photoshop, illustrator, premiere, and some others.
I want some honest suggestions on what laptop to get. It basically needs to replace my current desktop and the suggestions should be for a PC machine. Thanks in advance.
- leisurebot0
you're blowing $2500 if you buy a PC laptop... Think again, think different...
- Tyrone0
bad idea asking that around here.....expect more answers like the one from leisurebutt.
I don't use PC's so I can't help u dog. Good luck.
- Mimio0
You'll end up buying a Dell.
- Tyrone0
is Dell really making the best PC these days? For some reason I want to hate them.
- blaw0
i ended up buying a dell.
i also picked up a port replicator so I can use my old monitor, keyboard, etc. when I'm working at my desk.

if you want mac... get the Referbished 17 inch they have for sale.
if you want the top of the line desktop replacement out there... get this....Sager NP8790 http://www.powernotebooks.com/sp… get the high end model and upgrade the Ram to 1 gig... throw in XP Pro.. and get the 7200 RPM harddrive. Great customer service and this computer blows away even most high end desktops.
- Donvitoviti0
PS.. this baby got top rating by CNET.. just to let you know that its lagit
- meok0
first off, leasurebutt.. your officialy on my ignore list. Congrats.
As for the question, Im buying this: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webap…
Its been called the best in class in almost every computer mag.
- Donvitoviti0
Meok... check out the one i posted... its acctually the top of the line... the real specs blows the HP out of the water. You can even get 2 harddrives in the baby....
- meok0
Don, I agree that the spec are mind-blowing. But a bit overkill. The Hp is gonna be used as third comp. Next to a athlon machine, a dual G4 and a broken g4 powerbook.
btw don, since you bought your 17", has it become your main machine?
- Donvitoviti0
yes.... I only have a PIII Computer... but had been using my companies Dell 1.8 Ghz P4 laptop up until I got my 17 Powerbook. Now I use my 17 for everthing.. and to top it all off.... I just got a G5 for work.
So you could say I have the top of the line apple shiz now.. its really fun. But I still like PC and Mac both.. but Macs are just so much better to use...

I appreciate the suggestions...
To Donvitoviti: have a link to cnet review?
- leisurebot0
So you don't like my opinion...
why did you post if you didn't want opinions ?My how clever, "leisurebutt" are you on recess from the second grade. Name calling always proves intelligence...
Yeah I think PC's are a waste of money, windows is mediocore OS. Perhaps all your stolen "sophtware" is all for windows, and this necessitates (sp?) your choice...
The industrial design of PC laptops is terrible, save sony who prefer to rip off the powerbook. Since I make my living as a designer I like to support companies that emphasize design & pay designers. The economic food chain if you will, support those who support you...
Oh the power of ignore, dole it out to those, whose opinions you don't like...
No worries though - I'm just a pompus asshole, whose just wasting your time to see what kind of asshole you are...
- jox0
You sound like someone who choose noodles depending on the package design.
- leisurebot0
Jox, your metphor is weak.
As all designers should know form + function go hand in hand. A designers job is to make things visually appealing
& functionally logical. As well you endow character to an inanimate object. (see Shintoism)The image or brand of a product carries a heavier weight in our rapidly evolving post-modern culture. If you need proof look to the Ipod, Paris Hilton, David Bowie, Chryslers new "retro design inspired" cars. (Which I really hate.)
As for Apple, they've defined & redefined the the personal computer, in form, function, and as a cultural force, with style & design... I chose to support this business paradigm.
Many people Love to hate Apple, without logical reason, as this Thread suggests.
- mg330
Why do you want a laptop?
So you can use Starbucks for your office?
- Generic0
HA! Me use Starbucks? My friend I am the person behind the illicit Starbucks Invasion culture jam:

- jox0
Leisurebot,
I certainly do not hate Apple, and I really appreciate good design, but there's a point where design is over-priced just for the sake of it. I believe that if OSX was available for PCs, Apple computers would be gone within a few years.
- mg330
that's badass generic.
Glad I razzed you otherwise I may have never known! :D

NOT DELL!!!!!! Dell is consistently reviewed as a horrible laptop, and they are high maintenance. When I studied abroad, every person (10 people) had to call tech support and have someone on sight. Good thing they have great tech support.
Most people I know, on the pc side like toshiba and IBM. Check out Alienware too.
