man... I have a printer, who keeps sending me a .dat or .bin file whenever I request a font i need for the same clients web job.
what can i do with that. Is it mac format... i thought a bin was an iso.... i've tried opening it on my powerbook, but to no evail.
any knowledge feeders.... feed me!!!

Does it come with a working file also?
If you get the file you want AND a .dat file along with it - it might be the file cached. Don't ask me how that works though, that's just what I've been told.
Or, he's got a nasty virus who spreads itself thru emails, but if you have a decent virus app, it kills the file and replaces it with an (empty) bin file.

Sounds Macish. Try looking for some font conversion software. Would the two files correspond to the .pfm and .pfb of a type 1font?

as far as I know, you cant open dat files on a mac, probably either a virus, or just that the attachments are not coming through right, happens a lot... have him zip it up.
