i have been looking for a new domain name to start a new design company site... thing is they all belong to the a$$holes who bought the site for $10 and want to sell it for ridiculous amounts of money... I just got an email back asking for $20k for a domain name... WTF
anyone deal with this and think it is ridiculous?

yeah, a guy from Japan asked $20,000 for a domain name (.com) for a site that isn't even up... one of those people who bought probably 100 domain names trying to sell them for crazy money...

My nine year old son thinks of great, available domain names. I'd tell you some but I haven't registered them yet. Use your imagination!

To me, it's just a name. It depends on the company capital, if they have more capital, even a simple name like (xyz) can become a brand. If I were you, I would change to anther name.

yeh but xyz is a great name :)

it's so easy to hijack a domain
especially those who only have a buy me page up

JEWUNIT, how would you do it than? I had the same problem. they were asking 1900 dollar for it... and it's still there, with the "BUY ME!" page

the easiest way is to wait until expiration date and make a request to buy it, well I know it's obvious but it works, first come first served
another way to do it is to spoof the victims e-mail address and request to change the domain information
most of these people don't pay attention to their domains so it gives you plenty of time to hijack it
the hard way is to hack into their accounts, most of them use weak passwords anyway

haha, well I think I'll wait... it will expire in december of this year...
