Flash question: how are those slick animations made? is it a scripted mask? i think they're not tweened, moving so fluidly.
anyone?---> www.presstube.com

keyframed animation
- Duane0
i may be wrong, but i think it may just be raw talent and hand drawn frames.
- gogopi0
ok, no doubt about talent. I just wonder if there's a faster way to achieve that.
- DutchBoy0
if you want to get famous in a fast way, ask derek.
:P
- gogopi0
dutchboy, when i say "achieve that", i mean the overall effect not Presstube's work itself.
bottom line: it's all keyframe animation, right?all I wanted to know.
- rasko40
they must be keyframed animation taken from pencil sketches and then scripted to repeat randomly in those patterns and on several layers.. brilliant shit
i reckon so anyway fwiw
- gogopi0
thank you, rasko.

i was only TRYING to make a bit of fun..

at FITC he let us in on his process..
first he sketches everything in a sketchbook.. then he finds his favorites and scans them into the computer.. then he brings the scans into flash.. traces them by hand with the brush tool.. and then he'll animate, frame by frame, the drawings coming in, and coming out.. and then he'll take bits and pieces of everything, apply some code, and voila!

easy, eh?!?
the man is class

Tanx nick. NOW I'm sure it had to be done that way... At first, it just seemed too much work ( frame by frame, in and out). That's a lot of work.

keyframe animations done frame by frame using a Wacom tablet.
james uses code to populate some of the content randomly

This does raise an interesting point.
We are all looking for the quick fix, the easy way to do it....but when it comes down to it hard work, talent and patience are what matter.
makes me sick! ;)

hard work pays off man. presstube is the living example of it. rarely does good shit come easy.

His technique is similar to an animator from very early on... he used to draw directly onto movie film...
eg. imagine drawing a line all the way down a long strip of movie film and what would you get...
it's lovely to see something hand done, but with that little bit of programmatic flare.

are you thinking of Oskar Fischinger? very cool stuff: http://www.oskarfischinger.org/
( both of them ;] )

I think that it is a pitty that there is so much computer tweened work used when it comes to flash, true talent always shines through when you use old skool inbetween’n.
Don’t get me wrong Computer tweens when used correctly can be successful,
easy on the overkill guys :)
