Ok, so I've been using a new G5 dual 2ghz with a gig of ram and I've been having problems that I've never had on other Macs.
About 75% of the time when I activate internet explore it "unexpectedly quits", and I have to restart it.
ALso I just hada screen appear that dimmed my computer and said you must restart your computer in multiple languages.
Also, various programs "unexpectedly quit" on me and it's getting real annoying!
I'm using OSX 10.2.Does anyone have any issues with there G5's or do you have any advice for me on how I can cure this problem. I also have a 900 mhz G3 ibook and have very little problems with that one.
Thanks!

i have a g5 and run the system software that came with the box. i ran panther for about 2 weeks and it caused a lot of probs. but now that i reverted it runs fine. my fellow designer here runs panther on her g4 tower and she has similar problems you are having

No problems like those with mine. Your first problem is using Internet Explorer for Mac. its a POS.

agreed about IE, it was great 5 years ago. also, have u updated system software to latest? (10.2.8 i think). i have panther(10.3.3) on my G5, G4, and tiBook with no problems. also, download onyx (http://www.titanium.free.fr/us... and go to the automated tab, run that and restart (repair permissions/optimize).

running 10.3.3 here on my dual 2GHz - no crashes at all.
try to upgrade to panther.
repair all permissions frequently.
if this doesn't help, check the CDs that came with your system, on one of them is a hardware-analyzer. maybe you got some problem with the machine itself.
a, and did you run the firmware upgrade apple provided via software update?

don't use IE on a mac.
DON'T do it!

what do you recommend safari
I've had problems with that as well.

Firefox is the way to go on OS X

when your machine freezes and the multiple languages come up telling you to reset your computer, thats a kernel panic.
Apple says it's usually a hardware related crash, I've only experienced it twice in my life so far (using os x since 2002).

I recommend to renew prebinding the file information.
open ' terminal ' and type this:
sudo update_prebinding -verbose -root /
- tileeater0
yes. a kernel panic is rare. have you maybe installed 3rd party (cheapo) RAM?
how often do you experience this?
did you update to 10.3.3?
repair permissions?

when I installed illustrator CS I would get the 'unexpected quits' all the time. Troublehshot a million things only to find that my user account was corrupted (??!) Apple tech support confirmed that.
I had to create a new admin account and move everything over and reinstall illustrator.
worked fine since

That's bullshit 736863813
Illustrator CS is a twacked out buggy little bastard.
It's not your fault.
- pascii0
photoshop CS sucks too!
- Gorbie0
no problems on PS CS..
.......
.... ........ ........... yet.
- pascii0
i could cry sometimes...
- tileeater0
no CS problems here. on the contrary they are a breath of fresh air.
now quark 6!!! there's a real turd.
- Gorbie0
it's just Illy CS - suddenly quits a lot.
thankfully it usually happens when I've just saved something.
I stopped using IE for safari - but it seems the two problems could be related.

still think it was a bullshit solution myself.. felt like adobe was pointing the finger at apple and apple was pointing the finger at adobe.
dunno... it worked tho
- Gorbie0
It's hard for them to point fingers with their thumbs up their ass.
I'll try that if it gets worse.
