will he save/create US soccer?
- versa0
i don't think either proposal presented is really at the heart of the matter, but i guess i know what you mean..he is an amazing ball player...undeniable...but who knows where he'll be in a few years ya know....he's prolly getting so many offers....US soccer was already here, just fledgling....and its too young to save......we just need some growing up time....
Adu is great tho, no doubt about it, no doubt...so fun to watch...wish i had a 10th of his skill

First, I doubt that he's only 14...
And one person cannot save US-soccer....Anyway, US has hockey and baseball to concentrate on.

Didn't the New York Cosmos sign Pelé back in the 70s.
Why do people think Adu can do what Pele couldn't... because he's 14. I don't get the logic or why everyone who's young and good these days (Lebran James) has to recieve so much attention before they even do anything.
Note: im not saying Adu and James aren't good, just this trend of treating people who have never played at the highest level like gods strike me as an odd trend.

He's from my neighborhood in MD! So, I'm gonna save soccer by association.
Anyway, let him play, and we'll see.
And I also don't believe he's 14.

1... yes hes 14,
2... yes pele did sign with new york and drew record crowds.
Adu will boost soccer.
end of story

He did increase attendence at opening day by about 15000

He will not necessarily save US Soccer, IMO. However, he cannot hurt it, even though the US finished in the top eight in the last WC I believe. I think FIFA has the US ranked somewhere near the top 10. He's talented though and exciting to watch. Chances are he'll be in the EU somwhere playing by the time he is 18. ;)

I heard about him for the first time about an hour ago! My brother mentioned him on the way to play football tonight. I scored 8 incidentally, it was only 5's though.

Adu has already gave a boost to US Soccer. But I have a feeling we will not be seeing him much this year. Yes he is talented enough to make a 1st division side, but DC United has much better players that are going to start over him all year.
MLS made him the highest paid player merely as a publicized ploy. I believe they have already made back that money, so everyone is happy. Well everyone but the critics that do not understand soccer and want to see a kid dominated adults.
US Soccer does not need saving. It is super young, it grows every year and more kids in the US play youth soccer then any other sport, so it will only take time and advertising dollars to bring professional soccer to the forefront.

US Soccer? Does that exist?

Can it really be considered a legitimate sport if a "kid" can compete with grown men?
Imagine any 14 year old kid in the NFL or NBA...never gonna happen, and thats why soccer will never succeed in the US.
Just like the WNBA.

I think he'll be great for soccer. I just hope all the mainstream people not really into soccer stick around long enough to see him get comfortable and play to his potential. It took donovan 10 games to score, and look a him now.

his moves are ridiculous...ball control and poise like that are incredible for such a young player. anyone see that 60 minutess interview...i missed it. us soccer is YOUNG....and doing very good. We are competeing against countries who play soccer like we play basketballl, baseball, football, and hockey combined...we all now this...just gotta let em mature...and adu is going to be a catalyst to the MLS which will feed the national team....he makes me want to play soccer....

The U.S will never, ever, ever win a world cup, even with 11 super-stars on their team. The U.S. belongs to the Concacaf, in other words, the division of the north american, central american and caribean teams. Yes, Mexico and US will always stay near top 10 in the world while playing Jamaica, Guatemala, Virgin Islands, Cananda, etc. when qualifying is over, by the time they reach Europeans and Brazilians in the cup semis, it's like forget about it.... who's gonna change Adu's diapers?

http://www.fifa.com/en/mens/stat… woo hoo FIFA loves the US at #9

never say never SoulFly, think what you want, but the US was already in the final 8 I believe the last WC, give it 20 years or so though.

Soccer is for wetbacks or smelly Europeans. Americans only care about the three major sports.
1. Baseball
2. American Football(NFL)
3. BasketballAll other sports are for chicks or the disabled.
If you need further proof on my assumptions just look at what the kids are playing in school and what people are watching on television.
