I'm thinking about graduate school and I'm wondering how many people here have their masters or doctorates?
Actually, my main motivitation for higher(er) education is that I'm interested in applying 3D and design towards the areas of history, sociology or urban planning, rather than just commercial design.
I'm wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences that they'd like to share.
Thanks.

All I gotta say is don't go to Grad school to get a job, so far I haven't encountered anyone who cares.
However it is great to develop as an artist and if you ever wish to teach.

I was a freelancer for 5 years before I returned back to higher education and I'm about to get my Master's this summer in MIS - Software Management. Slightly different than what you are doing, but I strongly recommend it. Not only has this been a great learning experience for me, but I'll stick with me for the rest of my life.

Thanks guys. I'm still interested to see if anyone has gone a similar route to the one I am inquiring about.
If not, does anyone work in non-commercial sectors? If so, what was the route taken?
Thanks.

Just call me Dr., at least in 3 years I hope.
Fingercore, I'm currently going after my Ph D. in Philosophy, I know it is redundent, and I am loving it.
As for your desire to apply 3d and design, don't go into history. I have an undergrad degree in that and thought about pursuing my Ph D. there, but they're not all about technology. Sociology and Urban Planning would definitely love that kind of stuff though. Honestly, if sociology is just glorified statistics, then it sounds like 3D and design could make some killer pie charts. Honestly though, that field is always seeking new ways of modeling and interpreting statistics.
As far as grad schools go, I'm not sure which ones you'd actually want to look at for those interests. Best bet is to check out websites and make some calls. Once you've found some places you want to go, see what kind of funding is available, that's the key. School ain't cheap and there is a lot less money out there for grad school vs. undergrad. So, try and find a place or grant that would fit you.

one2meny, you going to fordham right? my girlfriend is currently getting her doctorate in psychology at yeshiva.
haha, i had hoped to apply 3d towards something more than just glorified pie-charts....perhaps help design efficient low-cost urban housing, etc.
