illustrator: type on curves

i have a lot of trouble getting the text into position on my curves, i was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks...any tutorials out there that talk about this more in depth?..is there a way to flip type so the tops of the text are aligned to the curve...?

Big type on a curvey curve is impossible. Less curve and smaller type works best. If you want the top to follow a curve : make the curve in line form that you want... lock it use the same curve below it and put the type in. Tweak the curves to adjust to the top line.

It's all about getting a hold of that frustrating little line that resides at the beginning of the type on path. Once you grab that, the world is yours.

you can change type position relative to the path using baseline shift.
best is to have the middle of the x-height follow the path.
