  What is the difference between a Flame designer and a designer who just uses AE? If the option is there to learn flame, is it something that would help me out in the future? Are you more marketable, more job opportunities, more money?

  I think someone who knows Flame is opening more avenues available to them then just an AE artist. Generally learning any Discreet piece of software will get you working in the film industry in post production effects.

  also, i think Flame works only on unix..?

  flame is a lot better than AE. especially since it's realtime.
  it's not only software, it's also a whole system. runs on unix only.
